Q.1 What is the difference between Net Telephony & making an ISD call?

Ans: Net Telephony is one of the ways to make an ISD call. A normal ISD call is made from a landline or a mobile phone. Net Telephony ISD call is made by dialing through a PC.

 

Q2. Will I be charged ISD rates on my telephone on using this service?

Ans: No, you will not be charged ISD rates on your phone. You will charged only the following components:

• Tata Indicom Broadband 2.0 Net Telephony Tariff

• Internet Access charge - by your ISP

• PSTN charge for local ISP connectivity - by your local BSO (if you are accessing the internet through a dial-up connection)

 

Q3. What are the various countries I can call using this service?

Q4. Are there any hidden fees or charges?

Ans: There are no hidden fees or charges. You just pay for the Net telephony call at the country rate per minute as defined in your rate Plan.

 

Q5. How can I contact Customer Service?

Ans: Following are the contact points for customer service:

• Email: customerservice@tatacommunications.com

• Customer Service Number in your city

• Helpdesks (where customer service numbers are not applicable)

• Walk in counters at Tata Communications office

 

Q6. Can I logon to the Internet as well as use Net Telephony simultaneously at different locations at the same time? If so, how many such connections are possible?

Ans: Yes, you can logon to both Internet and Net Telephony at the same time, from different locations. You can have only one active session for net telephony.

 

Q7. How can I activate net telephony service on My Account?

Ans: The net telephony service is activated by default on all Tata Indicom Broadband 2.0 accounts.

 

Q8. I have just changed my Internet password. Has my Net Telephony password changed too?

Ans: If you have selected the option to change only your Internet password then the Net Telephony password would not have changed. If you have changed the "common" password then the same will be applicable for Net Telephony as well.

 

Q9. Can I have different passwords for Net Telephony, Internet & E-mail?

Ans: Yes, you can have different passwords for Internet Access and Net Telephony. Your internet access password and email service password will always be the same.

 

Q10. Can I use my computer speakers and microphone to make PC-to-Phone calls?

Ans: Yes.

 

Q11. Can I use my Net Telephony account to send a fax?

Ans: No.

 

Q12. Can I use Tata Indicom Broadband Net Telephony on an internet connection offered by any other ISP?

Ans: Yes, provided the internet service provider has not blocked the Tata Indicom Broadband Net Telephony service.

 

Q13. Can I use the service at a cyber café?

Ans: Yes, you can use the service at cyber cafés. The PC at the cyber café should be on a Public IP or a NAT connection to the Internet.

 

Q14. Can I use the service from my office?

Ans: Yes, you can use the service from your office. Your PC should have a public IP or a NAT connection to Internet in your office. Firewalls (if any, at your office) need to be open. Please instruct your network administrators to enable these. Soft phone would not work behind a proxy server.

 

Q15. How do I dial using Tata Indicom Net Telephony?

Ans: You can follow the steps given below to use Tata Indicom Net Telephony

• Download the Tata Indicom Broadband 2.0 Softphone from the Tata Indicom Broadband 2.0 CD or click here to download the Softphone.

• Login to the Softphone with your Tata Indicom Broadband 2.0 User Name and Password. Enter the desired number Click on dial to proceed

 

Q16. What are the minimum system requirements for using Tata Indicom Broadband 2.0 Net Telephony?

Ans: Basic system requirements are as mentioned below

• Windows 98/NT/2000/XP/ Vista operating system

• Pentium 166 MHz processor

• JavaScript is enabled

• Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 to 6.0 or Netscape Communicator 4.5 to 4.7 & 6.1

• 64 MB of RAM

• 15 MB of free hard disk space

• sound card

• SVGA display card with 256 colors (16-bit color recommended)

• Microphone & speakers, or headset

• Internet access from any Internet Service Provider (ISP) with a minimum of 33.6 Kbps (56 Kbps recommended)

 

Q17. What is the audio tuning wizard?

Ans: An audio tuning wizard is a tool to help you adjust your speaker and microphone settings at the right levels for best experience while making a Net Telephony call.

 

Q18. How can I check my call records?

Ans: You can check your call records from the Softphone as well as the website. To check the details from the Softphone, click on usage details in the Account section. You will be able to see details of the last 10 calls. To check the details on the internet (for the Light version), log in to "My Account" and click on usage details.

 

Q19. How do I improve the sound quality?

Ans: Use a high-quality full-duplex sound card, and be sure you are using the latest drivers (check with the sound card manufacturer). Use the fastest Internet connection possible. Close as many browser windows and applications as possible. Adjust your Audio Tuning Wizard settings.

 

Q20. I am not able to login to the Softphone. What could be the reasons?

Ans: There could be various reasons why you are unable to login to the Softphone:

• Check if the User Name and the Password are correct

• Internet Connection Not Working: Check that your internet connection is working.

• Insufficient Account Balance: If you are on a Prepaid account, check if your account has sufficient balance.

 

Q21. I can hear the person, but they cannot hear me!

Ans: Check the microphone settings by tuning them with the Softphone's audio tuning wizard.

 

Q22. The person I am calling complains of hearing an echo!

Ans: If you are using a microphone, hold it away from the speakers to avoid having the sound from your speakers circulates into your microphone. Lower the volume on your speakers. Use a headset with a microphone. Check with your sound card manufacturer to be sure you are using the latest drivers.

 

Q23. I am getting a message "Audio Hardware not found"?

Ans: Check if your computer has a sound card. Check the Sound driver for the system. It may not be properly installed. Reinstall the drivers, once again.

 

Q24. I receive "Invalid number or unauthorized number" error message?

Ans: Check the dialed number. It could be an invalid number.
